More than any other reason, problems with the County's budgeting process have prompted me to run for County Commissioner. Cost of services is increasing much more rapidly than the rate at which tax revenues are growing.
I am proud of the fact that in my first year in office as elected County Surveyor I cut my budget by thirty percent. Keep in mind the Surveyor’s budget is very small. But I believe that leaders must set an example and I have done that. I am the only Larimer County elected official currently in office who has cut his budget.
We have got to change the “use it or lose it” approach now in place. This just encourages waste.
To improve tax revenues, we must strengthen our economy. Tax increases should be a last resort, not the default option.
I have developed an 8-point plan for improving the budgeting process. Please review this plan by clicking on the drop down menu under the Issues tab.
